MISSING THE POINT

I just read the published letter to the editor entitled Stay Home,
Young Man. I feel that you missed the point of the comparisons in
that letter. All the comparisons were with misplaced ideologies.

The Christian Crusades were an endeavour to force a remote part of
the world to accept an alien (at that time) religion.

The Spanish Inquisition endeavoured to police people's thoughts, and
Nazism was after racial purity. They tried, respectively to dictate
religion, thoughts and procreative choice.

These drugs laws try to control what people ingest.

All the comparables were ill thought out and doomed to failure in the long run.

This war on drugs is only a few years old in societal terms and in
the next few years it will end because it too is ill thought out and
endeavours to control human behaviour senselessly.
