POLICY CHANGE 'LUDICROUS'

While I extend my sincerest condolences to the family of this young
man, calling for a review of the B.C. Amateur Hockey Association's
zero-tolerance drug policy is ludicrous.

This young man signed, in good faith, an Athlete Code of Conduct. This
policy is in place for good reason.

Jason knew the rules and chose to break them.

That he chose to take his own life over this is very sad, but that
again was his choice.

If hockey association officials were to turn a blind eye to Jason's
"indiscretion," they would set a precedent that could possibly lead to
worse things.

And if they turn a blind eye to marijuana, what will be next?
Steroids? Cocaine? Meth-amphetamines?

The B.C Amateur Hockey Association should not change its
zero-tolerance policy -- they do it as a service to the players.

Again, to Jason's parents, my heartfelt condolences on the loss of
your only child.

Yvonne Brien,

Aldergrove
