Foster RECENT DRUG ARRESTS SHOWCASE TOP NOTCH LAW ENFORCEMENT WORK Thursday, Oct. 17, was a good day for our law enforcement officers and the local community in the Tallassee Road area. By working together, the local businesses described, tracked and located a wanted felon. Accurate, timely communication between these business people and the sheriff's departments in Clarke and Oglethorpe counties resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old male as he set up at a Tallassee Road car wash. Outstanding law enforcement techniques were evident. Due to outstanding warrant information supplied by Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Department dispatchers, the warrants were promptly served, and the suspect was returned to Oglethorpe County. This led to several other arrests in the Oglethorpe County area. Without the excellent and prompt cooperation of both business and law enforcement personnel, these predators would still be victimizing the public. On Oct. 20, another example of teamwork by the Athens-Clarke Police Department resulted in the arrests of four drug suspects, confiscation of two cars and a cache of drugs near the intersection of Westchester Drive and Tallassee Road. Four police units and an off-duty officer worked together to safely handle the heavy traffic, several belligerent drug suspects and the careful documentation of drug evidence and personal property of the offenders. Aggressive prosecution of the drug offenders in this area will certainly make a safer place for us all to work and live. Let us all encourage and thank our law enforcement officers for their around-the-clock efforts. Bob J. Foster - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Stevens
