TAX THE WEED

This is in response to the letter from the lady who is apparently concerned
that her surgeon is going to light up a fatty just prior to performing an
operation on her. I hope that doesn't happen to her.

Ma'am, this coin has two sides. No one can say marijuana use is a good
idea, but nothing you or I say is going to stop people from smoking pot.

As it is now, a person who gets caught with as much as a seed is a felon.
This while gangsters get rich selling the drug. Here is our chance to take
the wind out of their sails. Let's put a tax on it and build a sewer
system, put in a few sidewalks, and get a driver education course in our
high school.

The money saved on drug busts, trials, and building and maintaining an
extensive prison system could be better spent teaching our young people to
be mechanics, welders, bricklayers, etc. Anybody smell a taxpayer?

This is something we should all consider when voting on Question 9. Thanks
for your time.

Daryl Fisher

(Note: Possession of an ounce or less of marijuana was reduced to a
misdemeanor in 2000.)
