GIVE FEDS POT'S PROFITS

Michael Honohan's argument for legalizing home-grown marijuana ("Reach
compromise on marijuana," Letters, Oct. 8) misses the mark.

He touches on the fact that marijuana use is never going away, and he's
right that illegally transporting it should be a capital felony --- but if
growing your own were legal, you'd still have marijuana "moonshiners"
selling marijuana side-by-side with cocaine and other illegal drugs easier
to conceal and more profitable.

The solution is to take a page from our own history --- Prohibition.
Legalize marijuana and put it under the exact same laws and controls as
liquor. Then the tax money on the sale will go to the federal government!
