METH ARRESTS

WE HAVE FREQUENTLY noted that ordinary citizens can help police protect our
city simply by using their eyes and ears and reporting any suspicious activity.

In the case of the methamphetamine labs that are springing up in West
Texas, we pointed out that they can also use their noses. The chemicals
that are "cooked" to produce amphetamine give off some very pungent odors.

An alert neighbor who reported to police a strange smell coming from a West
Lubbock residence recently helped break up a methamphetamine ring. Seven
people were arrested, and 10 pounds of the drug were seized.

It is sad that the lure of easy money causes people to manufacture a drug
that brings destruction to many lives.

The war against crime affects everyone. It is gratifying to see good
citizens help police. Something as simple as a single telephone call to law
enforcement officers at the right time can make a big impact on crime.
