MP SAYS SENATE'S MARIJUANA REMARKS SHOW THEY'RE "DOPES"

To Red Deer MP Bob Mills the Senate's recent announcements about
legalization of marijuana aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Mills said other democratic nations look at Canada's patronage-appointment
Senate, and shake their heads in disbelief. Mills said what this group
does, no matter how controversial, shouldn't be taken seriously, as
unelected people make major policy recommendations which could affect
millions of Canadians.

"It's just so stupid," said Mills.

"For these guys to put something like this forward, I just can't understand
it."

Mills said legalization, or simple decriminalization, will probably never
see the light of day anyhow.

"As far as I'm concerned there's no evidence that starting with marijuana
doesn't lead to harder drugs," he said.

"Once you're into those harder drugs, your life is destroyed."

Also, Mills said our American neighbors probably wouldn't look on
decriminalization or legalization kindly.

"They don't need some socialist drug pusher coming over their border,"
added Mills.
