PROHIBITION DOESN'T WORK

Re: Smoke clouds reason -- the editor stated: "But legalization would
simply legitimize something that should be discouraged."

That "something" is nothing less than the freedom of personal choice. Is
that really something to be discouraging?

With the release of Senator Pierre Claude Nolin's report we are predictably
awash in knee jerk reaction and pot-pun news headlines. Those against the
report's recommendations are trotting out the standard arguments, all of
which have been for the most part, disproven. Criminalizing recreational
activity and attempting to legislate morality do not work.

Prohibition is an abysmal failure, as proven throughout history. Marijuana
should be legal and regulated, no matter what police protecting their
paycheques, doctors protecting pharmaceutical grants and ignorant zealots
tell us.
