MISSING DRUG BUST MONEY DRAWS GBI

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into how several hundred
dollars came up missing after a Grovetown Public Safety drug bust. Mike
Seigler, special agent in charge of the GBI office in Thomson, said
Grovetown Public Safety officials contacted his office July 19 and asked
for an investigation into a July 15 drug bust in which close to $600 was
confiscated but later was missing.

Agent Seigler said the GBI is interviewing everyone involved to determine
whether an officer took the money.

"Something like this is cut and dry," he said. "The allegation is either
true or not true."

Grovetown Public Safety Capt. Gary Owens previously told The Augusta
Chronicle that, on July 15, Grovetown officers searched a mobile home on
Whiskey Road and found Michael Dorsey, 28, and Vanata Rose, 19. Police say
they found two pieces of crack cocaine in the bedroom.

The report does not state that any money was found.

"That's going to be the one," Agent Seigler said, confirming that the case
is under investigation.

The investigation should take a week to complete.

Capt. Owens said he couldn't provide much information, but he said calling
GBI was standard procedure.

"We want to keep everything aboveboard," he said.
