LEGALIZE AND REGULATE MARIJUANA

RE: RANDY Scott's outraged letter (July 24). The government that you are
asking to not decriminalize or legalize marijuana is the same government
that supports drinking and smoking tobacco. They are the same government
that gets some of its money to spend on you from tobacco or alcohol
companies through the many forms of taxes that are paid, or the taxes that
you pay every time you pick up a case from the local liquor store.

I read this newspaper every day and I have not heard of a single car
accident where only marijuana was involved, but I keep reading about drunk
drivers causing wrong-doings. Even though kids now may be doing drugs, if
the government did legalize it, there is a possibility of regulations
coming into place that will control the flow of marijuana into children's
hands, when right now, if you have enough money, you can go behind the
corner store and get some, no matter the age.

(There is no public consensus on legalizing marijuana.)
