HERALD BIASES POTENTIAL JURORS AGAINST ACCUSED

The sudden concern for the reputation of an accused "drug felon" should
provide The Daily Herald guidance in reporting on less prominent people
accused of crimes. Too often people are convicted of drug charges in the
pages of The Daily Herald before an arraignment is even made.

The Daily Herald frequently gives law enforcement and prosecutors an open
forum to prejudice the jury pool against a defendant before the evidence is
even considered. Seldom are opposing views presented fairly.

The Daily Herald's concern about getting a fair trial for 4th District
Judge Ray Harding Jr. would be laudable if the policy is extended to all
people accused of crimes.
