HEDONISM - A STEP TOO FAR

SIR - The Home Secretary's virtual endorsement of cannabis by
downgrading its classification, will create an enormous burden on
everyone who will be forced to fund the burden on the Health Service
caused by the growing number of addicts (Soft line on cannabis
is extended, 11 July 2002).

It is the duty of every Government to protect the majority of people
in the UK, most of whom are not drug users. The Home Office should
fund the police to put enough officers on the streets to tackle the
issue of drugs, so that all drug dealers are arrested and convicted.

Hedonism has always undermined the moral standards that are the
foundation of any civilised society . It is time for us all to take
collective responsibility and say no to drugs for the sake of our
country and in particular, our youth.
