TEST TEACHERS, NOT STUDENTS, FOR DRUGS

To the Editor of The Day:

Somehow the logic of random drug testing of school children by the schools
escapes me. Having the employees test the customer is backwards (The Day,
June 28). After all, the student is the consumer of services paid for by
the taxpayer and the teachers and administration are the hired help.

Let's start our random drug testing with the administration and teaching
staff who are our employees before we begin testing the customers.

I don't exactly know what the Supreme Court was smoking when it made this
decision but it would be akin to having General Motors drug test the
shoppers before they were allowed to purchase a Chevy.
