WALKER RIGHT TO CUT FUNDING

I disagree with the Oct. 1 editorial "Unwise county budget cut," which
criticized County Executive Scott Walker for cutting $230,000 from his 2003
budget for the county's contribution to supply clean needles to drug users.
Walker deserves praise for his action.

It's a criminal act to inject heroin or any other illegal drug into one's
body. Drug use is self destructive. So why should county taxpayers provide
the means with which drug users can continue with their drug addiction?

By the editorial's line of faulty reasoning, taxpayers should provide
condoms to unmarried persons so they can practice "safe sex," cigarettes to
people so they can do untold damage to their lungs and alcohol to persons
who desire to ultimately destroy their livers.

The Journal Sentinel Editorial Board is guilty of contributing to the moral
decay that grips our county by endorsing a program that provides clean
needles to drug addicts.
