TRUSTEES TO WEIGH DRIVER DRUG TESTS

County school board trustee Richard Kniaziew will bring forward a motion
tonight which calls on the provincial government to make school bus drivers
subject to random urine tests.

The issue, which would require drivers to be alcohol and drug free, will be
discussed by Catholic trustees at the board's regular meeting.

Kniaziew said a recent incident in Chatham-Kent where a driver was
intoxicated while driving a school bus and another incident involving a
school bus driver in the Detroit area triggered his action.

"I'm concerned before an incident happens here that we need to have bus
drivers aware that somebody can knock at their door at any time and give
them a urine test," Kniaziew said.

"This is just one more way to better protect our kids," he added.
