I am the mother of three daughters. As my family was eating dinner the other night, my 7-year-old and her 8-year-old friend were talking at the table. My 7-year-old chose to have water as her drink, her friend chose soda pop. "Did you know that drinking too much water can kill you," said my daughter's friend. I instantly knew where that idea came from. " While adults can put the whole drug/water scenario into context, children do not. All they are hearing is that a teen died from drinking too much water.
