DARE A GOOD TEACHER

Obviously, the Feb. 27 Viewpoints letter writer, Mary McGarr ("DARE to end
program"), lives in a bubble, out of touch with society. Being a father,
police officer and a concerned citizen, I believe the Drug and Alcohol
Resistance Education program offers some of the most crucial instruction
our children will ever receive.

I have monitored and attended two DARE programs that my children have
attended and they are being offered invaluable information.

Since Houston is a hub for the distribution of illicit narcotics in the
country, our children need this instruction desperately. Drugs destroy
children and families from all walks of life. They don't discriminate
against race, religion, gender or the educated.
