NEWSPAPERS SHOULD REJECT DRUG LIFESTYLE

Congratulations to Piers Akerman for his piece headed "A victory we all
should celebrate" (Daily Telegraph, February 22). The shortage of heroin on
the streets of Sydney at present is something for which the police and
other authorities working with them should be commended.

Newspapers can have great influence on the thinking of their readers with
regard to acceptance or rejection of lifestyles. The lifestyle of drug
addiction and its associated effects should surely be discouraged, and the
law-enforcing authorities given support. It is good to read that Mr Akerman
is doing this.
