NARC CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING

A Toronto drug squad detective has been arrested and charged with 
drug trafficking after an internal investigation.

Det.-Const. Robert William Kelly, a 12-year veteran of the force who 
was working in North/West Field Command Drug Squad office out of 32 
Division, was arrested on Friday by members of the Professional 
Standards Special Task Force and the Toronto Police Service Internal 
Affairs.

Rcmp-Led Squad

The Professional Standards Special Task Force is an RCMP-led squad 
created at the request of Chief Julian Fantino, to investigate 
allegations of wrongdoing.

Kelly has been suspended from duty.

He was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance; two counts 
of possession for the purpose of trafficking and criminal breach of 
trust. Police refused to disclose what drug was allegedly involved.

Kelly appeared in Brampton court on Saturday and was released on 
bail. His next scheduled court date is Dec. 14.
