BADGES GAME A SUCCESS

Contest Nets $2,000 For D.A.R.E. Program

Eddie Shack? A drawing card?

Hockey fans in Nelson sure seem to think so. Why else would no less than
750 spectators flock to the Civic Cenre Arena to witness the "Entertainer"
in action in the Battle of the Badges hockey game.

The Nelson Law Enforcement team defeated the Castlegar Firefighters 10-6 in
the contest. But the real winner on this night was the D.A.R.E. (Drug
Abuse Resistance Education) program, which received $2,000 from the contest.

"This certainly was a real shot in the arm for the D.A.R.E. program," said
Nelson City Police Const. Bill Andreaschuk. "It was nice to see the people
of Nelson come out and support the program by attending the game."

Also on hand was Dave "Tiger" Williams, who suited up for the Nelson Law
Enforcement team. Not only did Williams provide the fans a glimpse of the
talent that enabled the Swift Current Bronco to spend fourteen banner
seasons in the National Hockey League, but Tiger also led the Law
Enforcement side with two goals and seven assists.

"I feel the difference in the game was, number one, our goaltender (Chuck
Brind'Amour) and, of course, the play of Tiger Williams," said Andreaschuk.
"Tiger not only played well in the game but he's a great guy and a great
leader in the dressing room."

The success of the contest already has Andreaschuk & Company making
arrangements to stage another game next year.
