DATE-RAPE DRUG CONCERNS ARISE

The executive-director of a Peace area advocacy group is concerned about
rumours the so-called date-rape drug is being used in Fort St. John.

"Really, I've just heard a couple of rumours, nothing that would have hit
the news," Carol Kube, executive-director of Action B.C. said. "My concern
is that it is happening in the younger crowds. You can die if you overdose
on these drugs."

RCMP Const. Grace Arnott, drug awareness program co-ordinator for the
Peace-Liard region, said the nature of the drug makes claims hard to prove.

"The problem with the drug is that it goes through the body so quickly that
when we hear that it happened, it is hard to get the tests done," she said.
"So while we didn't have the tests, from what they said it sounded like a
date-rape drug."
