MARIJUANA: PROHIBITION PROVED LEGALIZATION BETTER

Dear Editor,

Bob Groeneveld is clearly an enthusiastic supporter of laws that seek to
punish Canadians for what they choose to ingest into their own bodies
[Growing needs, Aug. 14 Comment, Langley Advance News].

I disagree. I feel that my body is inviolate, and that the state has no
business telling me what I may or may not do with it.

Not only that, our experience with Prohibition showed conclusively that
banning a drug harms users far more, by cutting them off from supplies of
known purity and potency, and by jailing them, than if it had not been
banned in the first place.

Meanwhile we all pay the price of higher taxes and more police corruption.

Ah well, as long as you allow an opposing view to slip in once in a while,
I guess I can't complain.
