ERIC LAMAZE IS A CREDIT TO HIS COUNTRY

The idea that equestrian Eric Lamaze is unfit to represent Canada is
pernicious for the future of sports. (Spruce goosed," Aug. 27.) How
about the idea that any young person who tried any drugs ever gives up
any plans to be involved in sports when they see Eric burned on the
pyre? That counter-productive result will be but another example of
the road to hell paved with drug laws that are hypocritical and
unenforceable. Lamaze is a credit to his country and his sport. Please
do not be so cruel as to disqualify him just to send an ineffective,
moralizing message that will fall on deaf ears as the failure of the
drug war so clearly demonstrates.

Chris Buors

(Letting Lamaze compete makes a mockery of drug-testing for
athletes.)
