INNOCENT LIVES

I was saddened to read Denise Wigfield's rant (Letters, Aug. 12) about
clean needles and intravenous drug users. This mind-set has divided any
good sense on the topic worldwide.

Clean needles for drug addicts save innocent lives. Forget their illegal
drug use. What happens when AIDS/HIV is transmitted to innocent partners?

Yes, Ms. Wigfield, life is full of choices, good and bad. It would be
simple to throw away the drug users and those who do not conform to your
ways. Unfortunately, we are our brothers' (and sisters') keepers.

How would you feel if you were infected by a loved one with a hidden
intravenous-drug-use past? Clean needle exchange may save you and others
one day.
