JAIL INMATES TEST POSITIVE FOR METH

Seven Bartow County Jail inmates tested positive for methamphetamine over
the weekend, Sheriff Clark Millsap said Wednesday.

Millsap said officials are still investigating how the inmates obtained the
drugs. Each was under "trusty" status, meaning they have earned the right
to leave the prison for supervised work such as working in the kitchen or
in the garage.

A prisoner cannot earn trusty status if he committed a violent crime.

Millsap said one of the prisoners appeared to be intoxicated, which led to
the drug investigation.

The seven who tested positive are being charged with possession of
methamphetamine by ingestion and bringing contraband into the prison.
