NEW DRUGS TSAR TAKES CONTROL OF NEWRY PROJECT

Newry and Mourne Drug Partnership have appointed a community drug co-ordinator.

Leo Foy will be carrying out community-based drugs information, awareness
and education work with community and voluntary organisations throughout
the Newry and Mourne area.

The main aim of the partnership is to "address the current drug problem in
a co-ordinated and consistent manner and so reduce the level of
drug-related harm by initiating and developing programmes of activities
within local communities."

Mr Foy's role will be to work closely with community groups to deliver
relevant, correct and up-to-date information to parents on illegal and
illicit drug use in the area.

He will attempt to dispel the misinformation that distorts the real picture
regarding young people's drug use and their attitudes towards drugs.

A comprehensive directory of services relating to the drugs problem will be
compiled and made available free across the whole community so that young
people and adults can access the necessary help, advice and counselling
when required.

Mr Foy is available to speak to any community group in the area at any time.

He can be contacted on (028) 3083 4271.
