NEW LAWYER FOR MACOSKO

A trial for Matt Macosko, a South Shore man who is charged with
transporting more than an ounce of marijuana, probably won't happen
until at least August because he's been assigned a new lawyer.

El Dorado County Deputy Public Defender David Rogers was first assigned
to defend Macosko. Jordan Morgenstern, a private attorney who contracts
with the public defender office, has replaced Rogers, who recently
became aware that he knows someone involved in the case.

Macosko, a 28-year-old from South Lake Tahoe, was arrested April 11
after allegedly mailing a package containing a quarter-pound of
marijuana to Kentucky. The package was not picked up in Kentucky and
returned to South Lake Tahoe.

South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team agents arrested Macosko
after he retrieved the package at a post office on Al Tahoe Boulevard.

In addition to being charged with transporting marijuana, Macosko is
also charged with possession of more than an ounce of marijuana and
driving under the influence of marijuana.

At a preliminary hearing in June, El Dorado County Superior Court Judge
Suzanne Kingsbury dropped a charge of possession of marijuana with
intent to sell. Macosko's next court appearance is July 23 at 8 a.m.
