111 PEOPLE TEST POSITIVE FOR DRUGS

Kuala Lumpur: Police detained 80 men and 31 women after they tested
positive for drugs in raids at four entertainment outlets in the Klang
Valley yesterday.

Police said the 111, aged between 20 and 42, will be charged in court
on Monday under Section 15A of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which
carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or two years' jail upon conviction.

Federal Deputy Director of narcotics Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Mukhtar
Ismail said a 150 member police team conducted the raid.

He said the team stormed into discotheques in Pandan Perdana, Sri
Petaling, Jalan Pahang and Jalan Klang Lama at 4am.

"We checked 268 people, including 85 drivers who were rounded up at a
traffic police roadblock at Pandan Perdana during the four hour operation.

"However, 111 people tested positive for amphetamine-type stimulants
(ATS), cannabis and morphine, including 26 drivers," he added.

"We screened 68 patrons in one of the discotheques and 50 tested
positive for drugs," he added.

He said the on-going operation would extend to Ipoh, Penang, Johor
Bahru and other places in the country.
