GANGS FUELLED BY DRUG PROHIBITION

Re: Do gangs have city under siege? (Dec. 19). I wondered if this gang
violence would be occurring if drugs were regulated rather than prohibited.
Seems like a fairly similar situation to early 20th century mob violence in
the United States over alcohol distribution and territories.

And if I remember my history correctly, mob violence was greatly reduced
when alcohol prohibition was repealed in the U.S. Is it just me or is there
a parallel to be drawn here?
