OXYCONTIN WOES

I am writing to comment on your news article concerning the OxyContin Task
Force. I am pleased to see action coming forth after holding the meeting
last month at Lee High School attended by hundreds of residents. Less than
two months ago, one of the Sunday school classes at St. Charles United
Methodist Church witnessed a drug deal transaction in the church parking
lot between 10 and 11 a.m. I would hope that the Task Force includes
residents who have endured this type of crime on a daily basis and have
been crying out for help for many years, to no avail. I also hope that
someone is following up on the idea of a Citizens Judicial Review Committee
similar to the one formed in Kentucky. It's time we held accountable the
system which continues to turn loose habitual offenders and seems to
protect the guilty rather that the innocent.
Thanks to the Times-News for your coverage in our area of St. Charles.
