TARAR FOR EFFORTS TO ERADICATE DRUG ABUSE

ISLAMABAD (APP)-President Muhammad Rafiq Tarar Sunday said that drug abuse
and trafficking was a global problem and its eradication calls for
coordinated international efforts.

In a message on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit
Trafficking, the President said the government is conscious of its
responsibilities and has taken several steps to contain the menace of drugs
in collaboration with the United Nations International Drug Control
Programme as well as on its own initiative to fight against drug trafficking.

He said drug abuse and trafficking is a global problem and its eradication
calls for coordinated international efforts, as no country can successfully
grapple with the menace on its own.

Rafiq Tarar appealed to all sections of the society including NGOs,
doctors, teachers, social workers, ulema and the media to play their part
in the fight against drugs.

He expressed his pleasure that the Government and people of Pakistan have
joined the world community to observe the "International Day Against Drug
Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" in pursuance of the United Nations
resolution to create a world free from drug abuse.
