COLOMBIAN JUDGE SEEKS ASYLUM IN US

NEW YORK -- A Colombian Judge who signed the warrant to arrest Pablo
Escobar, the country's most powerful drug lord, is seeking asylum in the
U.S. even though her country's government is asking her to return, the
Washington Post reports in its Wednesday edition.

Consuelo Sanchez was the youngest judge in Colombia when she signed the
arrest warrant 12 years ago, the Post said. Since then, Sanchez has lived
in U.S., where she was sent for her own safety.

Sanchez is fighting her country's request for her to return home, claiming
her life is still in danger from the Colombian drug cartels, the Post
reported. Tuesday was to have been Sanchez' final day as a consul in
Colombia's embassy in the U.S.
