DRUG WAR

AMARILLO, Texas -- My compliments to Stephen Chapman for his column,
"Looking for leadership on the drug war" (Commentary, Nov. 5). His polite
skewering of our next president and his chief rival highlights the
hypocrisy of our politicians--as though we needed this--and provides a
major reason why so many Americans are cynical about our government.

If it were possible to eliminate vice with laws and imprisonment, we would
have neither prostitution nor perjury. Those who abhor drug abuse and big
government, too, will get what we have now.

Both.
