MP GETS POT CHALLENGE

CHILLIWACK - Jamie MacPherson will challenge Alliance MP Randy White in the
next election, carrying the banner for the Marijuana Party of Canada.

MacPherson said he is one of 50 candidates that will be fielded by the
Marijuana Party across Canada in the next federal election, and he will be
seeking the Langley-Abbotsford riding held by White since 1993. White, the
Alliance's main justice critic, is diametrically opposed to legalization of
any drugs, including marijuana.

"There is no question that the vast majority of voters in the
Langley-Abbotsford riding are in favour of legalizing marijuana for adults,"
said MacPherson. "The Marijuana Party gives a voice to the millions of
Canadians who are ready to end the failed war on pot. It is time to try a
more sensible approach, which regulates marijuana in a manner similar to
alcohol and tobacco regulations. The Marijuana Party will generate at least
$20-billion in new tax revenue from a regulated commercial marijuana
industry."

MacPherson said that the new marijuana revenues would "split the cash
between income tax cuts and huge increases in health care and social
services, and cuts to tuition fees."

MacPherson can be reached at phone number 795-6301 or email to
