WAY FORWARD

THE Tories' 'strong' stand on drugs is barmy. If these drugs were
legalised, there might be a temporary surge of indulgence, but this would
be counterbalanced by less crime as fewer would steal to finance their habit.

Drugs would lose their aura of glamour, and the next generation, reacting
as they always do against their elders, would see the foolishness of
drug-taking and drug use would decline.

Legalisation might not work in this way - but neither do restrictions.
