PROHIBITION AS PRECEDENT

Stuart Eskenazi goes out of his way to present a biased report on Alaskans'
statewide ballot initiative to decriminalize marijuana.

We have no way of knowing whether legalizing marijuana will increase its
use. We do have a precedent, however, called "Prohibition." Ending
Prohibition reduced the violence and incarceration related to selling liquor
illegally. We might expect legalization to do the same for marijuana. We
sure aren't getting anywhere we want to go with our current laws.
