ADVOCATE WANTS HEMP CASE HEARD

VICTORIA -- Hemp honcho Ian Hunter wants the Supreme Court of Canada to
hear his case.

Hunter was convicted in 1997 of possessing marijuana.

Marijuana seeds and plants were found at his store, the Sacred Herb, in
1996. He filed court documents Tuesday asking the country's highest court
to hear his argument. Hunter is to represent himself.

The Supreme Court of Canada hears only cases it deems of national importance.

Hunter, who is an advocate for the decriminalization of marijuana and for
the use of hemp, has moved to Nelson, B.C., where he says "the grass is
greener."
