ELEMENTARY STUDENTS DARE TO GRADUATE

Squamish Elementary Students Finish Drug Resistance Program

Squamish Elementary School (SES) held its own graduation ceremony Wednesday night to recognize those who have chosen to say no to drugs.

Students at SES received certificates after completing the DARE program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) offered by the Squamish RCMP.

DARE is a comprehensive education program designed to equip elementary children with skills to recognize and resist social pressures to experiment with tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.

The last lesson of DARE is a assembly which all classes participating in the program take part in. Besides getting their certificates of completion, students gave personal reflections on their DARE experience and presented short skits on what they had learned.

Similar ceremonies took place last month at Mamquam and Garibaldi Highlands Elementary Schools.

The SES DARE grads include: David Barreau, Kathryn Bloy, Tyra Chapman, Jin-Kyou Choi, Melissa Corbett, Matthew Delikatny, Rachelle Diachuk, Linden Drygas, Kate Edison, Lathen Forrest-Hughes, Allen Hood, Meagan Howard, Melissa Johnstone, Paul Kilpinen, Kevin Levasseur, Jaimee Mahnger, Christopher Martin, Jennifer Martin, Christopher Newman, Bianca Pavon-Solis, Ria Phillips, Nashrah Rehman, Kate Reid, Sanita Sidhu, Emily-Anne Taylor, Mandeep Thandi, Cassie Wiebe and Matthew Williams.
