As a California voter who supports the proposition to legalize marijuana for adults, I had to smile at what Wayne Hall wrote (10/26,) that opponents fear "heavier marijuana use by young people, negatively affecting their life chances."
We have 12.5% percent unemployment in California, and I suggest that the persons who feign concern for young people and their life chances make sure there are jobs for them to go to. A good way to start would be to curtail outsourcing. I hope your country can avoid the trap that we have fallen into, where our industries and well-paying jobs have been allowed to desert for cheaper pastures. Marijuana is not the problem, by a long shot.

I'm writing about Mike Marks' thoughtful letter: "End pot prohibition"
(10-31-10).
I'd like to add that if some people are opposed to the use of marijuana,
then
don't use it. But don't try and dictate to me what I may put into my
body in
the privacy of my own home.
Don't try to deny me the right to pursue my own happiness the way I want to
as long as I am not harming someone else.

It's amazing how an elected official can be tempted to behave like a parent with unruly children. State Rep. Marty Knollenberg, R-Troy patronizingly said to the voters who passed the medicinal marijuana law, "At the end of the day, they're going to have something. The more they scream, though, they may end up with nothing at all."
Perhaps this threat works with angry two-year olds, but is not likely to impress serious voters who demand their laws implemented. Or does Mr. Knollenberg insinuate that he can find ways to defy the voters' will? His statement is inappropriate, and raises questions.

No doubt many marijuana growers and sellers are thankful for this latest
pot bust.
("U. S. SEIZES 25 TONS OF POT IN SAN DIEGO" 11-5-10). Without pot busts
like this, marijuana would be worth what other east-to-grow weeds are
worth--very
little.
